I LOVE your cabled Manos Para... scarf. The colour is lovely, and it's sooo nice and long. He should love it! Are you going to post the pattern? Too bad about the curling... that's always a pain.
Next time, use garter stich instead of knit stitch on the sides, or for example, 3 rows knit, 1, purl, and leave just 2 purl stiches beside cable.
