New project started.

This is Malabrigo Lace in #80 Azul Bolita that I've been wanting to use *forever*, but had no idea what to make with it. How on earth did I miss Laminaria? It's gorgeous! The star stitch, the lovely open lacework - fantastic.
I am worried, however, that I'll have enough yarn for it. I have 2.5 balls of the yarn (split a bag with a friend) and that only comes out to 1175 yds and the pattern calls for 1094 yds. That's cutting it pretty close with lace... I mean, I'm not super stressed about it, but it would be nice to not run out. Even if I do, Brooklyn General is right up the street, so not a huge deal.
I've already changed the pattern though. I can't do anything as set, can I? In the star stitch section, the pattern is written so that both sides have right-leaning stars. That upsets my balance. So, I changed it so the left side has left-leaning stars. It's a little more work (k3tog through the back loops is a bit of a bitch), but worth it to appease my fine OCD sensibilities.
And the yarn? Love. True love. Super soft and truly the most gorgeous color ever. That cobalt is just electric and amazing. The shawl is going to look fantastic with my new coat. I can't wait!

It's really fun to do. Well, I think it's really fun. Since those stripes are 1 stitch wide, I've got a ton of bobbins in there which makes for a very challenging subway knit, but interesting nonetheless. The fold-up brim makes it look ridiculously long, but once it's folded up it's soft, squishy and fits really well. I'm excited to be doing some non-work-knitting. Especially since I'm able to blog something for you guys. :)

This is actually for a young man I've been seeing. He's kinda awesome and I really dig him. His birthday was last week, so I needed to make him a hat. Being me, I can't just make a simple hat, especially not for someone I like. And if a project isn't challenging, I don't really think it's worth doing. So, of course, I have to make up something kinda funky and fun. Besides, the pinstripes suit him very well.
The question for you guys is: Would you be interested in the pattern if I wrote it up and put it on the blog or made it a free Rav download?
