Lionine

lionhead1.jpg

That lion needs a body. But isn't he cute so far!? Considering my little obsession with making toys, you knew it was only a matter of time before I took up crochet merely for the amigurumi, right? I've started a few little things, but haven't really found the stamina for a full toy recently. It certainly helps that this little guy's head is the size of my palm. ;)

The pattern is from Ana Paula Rimoli's new book, Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet. I've been loving her designs for awhile now; I'm really excited for her that she has a book out.

The pear is next on my list. You know, to go in my kitchen and remind me to make more pie.

Pie Weekend

Oh, Pushing Daisies. I'm so in love with that show. Whimsy, wonder, knitting and beautiful, mouth-watering pies. I'm baking so much more lately since I've started seeing it.

Case in point, Cassie's boy's birthday party was this weekend. So I made a Pear-Gruyere pie (those of you who have seen the show should understand I did not add "extra vanilla"). Not 5 minutes after I cut it, the entire thing was eaten. Apparently it was the rock-star of the party. Everyone was talking about pie all night long: various kinds of pie, pie-related professions (Michelle, you open your yarn shop and I'll make your pies.) I'm quite proud.

Sadly, I did not take a picture of the pie. I know, I know, I'm sorry. But! But! But! I bought enough ingredients and made extra pie dough to make another one. I'll be doing that tonight. So, I will have photos and recipes for you soon.

To hold you until then, I will show you what else I made this weekend. I made a lot of extra pie dough. (Who knows what sort of pie I might want to make next, right?) Yesterday morning I made homemade poptart-type things. They were very very yummy and very easy.

They're just pie dough and preserves, but my god, they're yummy. The ones on the left (with the fork docking) are Honey Lemon Creme, the ones on the right (with a knife slit) are Blackberry. Personally, I think the Honey Lemon ones were the best, but the Blackberry ones were fantastic. I think I'm going to make some more with sausage and either maple syrup or more preserves. They'll need to be a little larger, but holy crap, I think they're going to be fantastic.
