I've been tapped by Iris to do the movie meme going around. I was really hoping to not get tagged for this one. If I thought the music meme was difficult, I really don't know about all this 5 favorite movies thing. Here, we go!
1. The last movie you went to see in a theater:
The Life Aquatic. I am not a Wes Anderson fan. I get lost in his cinematography and dislike his whole 70's aesthetic. That said, I loved this movie. Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors, Jeff Goldblum is always a creepy good time, and Willem Dafoe was amazing in every one of his scenes. Add in silly animated fish and boop-y Mark Mothersbagh music and you get a movie I can really get behind. I could actually look past *most* of the stupid Wes Anderson stuff.
2. The last movie you watched at home:
Resident Evil: Apocalypse. I actually liked the first one. I like playing the video games. The first one you could watch having not played the video game; this one made no sense unless you had. Even then, it was pretty dumb. I don't think I would watch it again, but am not upset I spent the time watching it.
3. How many movies do you own?
About 25. There are plenty more I want to add to my collection.
3a. What was the last movie you bought?
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban I bought it the day it came out on DVD and can you believe I still haven't been able to watch it all the way through yet? I was traumatized by it when I saw it in the theatre. I still can't bring myself to watch it again. Sad, no?
4. Got Netflix (or a similar service)?
No, I've been moving around too much lately to have it. As soon as I get settled somewhere, I will though.
5. List five movies you adore/mean a lot to you:
Brazil I have to go with Iris on this one. It's too good to leave out.
Fight Club One of my favorite movies of all time; though the book was better. ;)
Harold and Maude I saw this movie for the first time last year. All I could think was, "Where has this movie been all my life?" Oh, it's so good.
Amelie I love Jean-Pierre Jeunet and his art direction. This is the prettiest movie I have ever seen.
The Dark Crystal This is the longest running favorite movie ever. It came out when I was 4. 23 years later and the movie still takes my breath away.
Lilo & Stitch Cutest, squishiest animation ever. Tiny alien with serious attitude problem. Man named Cobra Bubbles. Tia Carrere. What's not to like?!
6. Name your guilty pleasure movie (or genre):
I don't really have a guilty pleasure movie. The closest thing I have is Secretary. I really like Secretary, but can't really go suggesting that people see it. I have a hard time telling someone that I think they would really enjoy a kinky movie.
7. Name 3 people to whom you're going to pass these questions on, and why:
Also, really difficult. Who hasn't done this yet? I'm going to tag the same girls I did last time. Everyone's favorite winner: Jackie Blue, a Grandmother-in-Training, and a cute little Pinku. Congratulations, ladies, you're meme-a-licious!
Here's a little sneak preview of Baby's First Raglan. This is the stripe swatch, I'm actually about half-way up the back already. Woo!
The boy is coming into town today. You probably won't be hearing from me again until Wednesday. Have a great weekend!
Wow. Of 36 guesses, only one was correct. I was originally planning on getting small presents for the two winners, but I think you're going to win something big, Miss Jackie Blue. That's right. Jackie, with her answer of Blonde, is our winner!
Everytime there is one color that blows all the others out of the water. It changes everytime, but there is always one color that gets way more guesses than anything else. This time it was purple. Purple? Who knew this was such a popular hair color.
Here's the break down:
Red.....................5 (Every one of these thought my hair would match my Softy Shrug.)
Lavender..............1 (Ann, you're crazy.)
Cut, no new color..1 (Good answer!)
I'm so in love with my Softy Shrug! I want to wear this thing all the time. It's the perfect weight for down here. I'm always chilly, but it's rarely *cold.* Everyone needs one of these! And I think I might need another one. Maybe black next time?
Here's the first Nipper Ripple done except for the Kitchener. These are some fun socks. Except, I am trying to like this random stripe thing. My second sock is *not* going to match the first and I am trying very hard to get behind that. I'm not sure it's working. I think it's interesting, and I'm probably not going to care once I'm done and they're on my feet, but for now it's irking me.
What is this? This is a nameless merino wool I bought on eBay a couple years ago. What is it going to be? A striped, v-necked, raglan sweater. I'm going to start swatching for stripe pattern soon. Should the stripes be all one size or should I vary it? We'll see. Also, help me name this sweater. Nipper Stripes? Nipper Blues? Baby's First Raglan?
On the Hair front, out of 26 guesses only one of you has guessed correctly. Still one prize to be given out! So, keep those guess coming!
What have I done to my hair? What color am I today? Guess correctly and get (you know the drill) fabulous prizes! The last couple times we've played What Have You Done To Your Hair This Time?!? I stayed within a specific color family. Have I stayed again, or am I branching out? You decide.
Email me and let me know your answer. Win Fabulous Prizes for guessing correctly! First two correct answers will win! You know you want to try!
Get your answers in by Wednesday afternoon. I'll post pictures of the hair and my Softy Shrug around 4. Good luck and happy guessing!
1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer high-end/natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you?
Well, I'm a yarn snob when it comes to the feel of a yarn. It doesn't have to be expensive, and it doesn't have to be wool. My favorite Phildar sweater is made with a wool/acrylic blend yarn. It does, however, have to feel good. If it feels fake-y, or scratchy, or weird, then I probably won't like it. There are some Lion Brand yarns that I like, but I tend to shy away from Red Heart.
2. Do you spin? Crochet?
No and no.
3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.)
I'm not allergic to anything, though if something smells like smoke it does freak me out. I love wool as long as it is soft and not scratchy.
4. How long have you been knitting?
Between 3 and 4 years, not exactly sure when I started.
5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Yes, here is my Amazon wishlist.
6. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
I like vanilla and ginger and other natural scents, mostly.
7. Do you have a sweet tooth?
Oh, baby, do I ever. Sweets are my reason for living.
8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?
I like to sew (clothes, purses, etc.) and I enjoy embroidery. Embroidery as an embellishment on something, not like a sampler or something, though.
9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
Yes, I can play MP3s. Music is a very difficult thing. see music meme in January 24 post.
10. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer?
Heh. Pink, orange, red, green (olive, lime, avocado.) I'm a summer/fall color palette kind of girl. I'm not a pastel or purple kind of girl. umm... yeah, I think that covers everything. ;)
11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
Unmarried, living with the parents, in a relationship. My mom has a Bichon Frise. She's so cute.
12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know)
Find a job where I'm not miserable and make enough money to support myself. At this point, I really don't care what that job is. Sad, no?
13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?
Koigu, Noro Cash Iroha, Morehouse Merino, Rowan Felted Tweed(!), Berrocco Softy
14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
No more mohair!!! Please God, make the madness stop! (Still a little twitchy after my Fluffy Clouds sweater. sorry.)
15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s?
Rowan Felted Tweed. I'm totally making another sweater from this stuff soon. I wear my Ron sweater *everyday.*
16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Socks, sweaters, hats.
17. What are you knitting right now?
Nipper Ripple socks, I'm about to start a striped raglan sweater in merino wool, I just finished my Softy Shrug. (yeay!)
18. What do you think about ponchos?
Not for me.
19. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?
Circular, always. Except when it's Douple Pointed. ;)
20. Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Bamboo. To be more specific, Crystal Palace Bamboo.
21. Are you a sock knitter?
Oh, yes. Very much so.
22. How did you learn to knit?
Drunk at a party. After trying to teach myself for months, I was at a party and noticed a friend had knitting stuff in her study. I made her teach me right then and there. She taught me how to knit and to purl and there was no stopping me after that.
23. How old is your oldest UFO?
The Punk Rock Backpack from Stitch n' Bitch. I was making the monkey backpack for my friend Amy for Christmas last year. First intarsia project, it was thrown across the room and is now shoved in the bottom of my stash. A year and a couple months old. One day I will have the courage to reknit it.
24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird?
Favorite Characters: Pucca, Nemukko Nyago, Classic Pooh, Lilo & Stitch.
Favorite Animals: Slow Loris, Sloths. They're so weird and cute.
25. What is your favorite holiday?
26. Is there anything that you collect?
What, you mean besides yarn? ;) Bento boxes.
