I've joined 2 big groups that are starting up soon. Sockapalooza and Secret Pals 4. I love the Secret Pal swaps; they're so much fun. Fun to buy stuff for your Pal and intense fun to get presents. I'm also really excited about Sockapalooza. I would love to be able to make someone socks out of the Ann that never pooled. It's such beautiful yarn, I would hate for it to go to waste. I hope my Sock Pal likes bright colors, though I will go buy different yarn if it turns out s/he doesn't. I also hope I can finish before the Ides of March (also known as the day before my birthday.)
Thanks to Em who suggested the German Twisted Cast-on, the Panda Bear Hat sailing along smoothly now. It's a big hat, but Amy's got a big noggin. Perfect. Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I might have to try that cast on for the Sockapalooza socks, too. Nice and stretchy, but seems strong enough that the socks won't constantly be falling down.
I got the weirdest spam yesterday. It was one of those spam emails that wants to sell you cheap Viagra or Vicodin or something. The subject of this email was: Interesting Medical Tip: Spray Your Girlfriend With Pain. Now... what the hell does that mean? I realize it's spam, and probably not going to make a lot of sense, but wow. I almost want a t-shirt of that. Link for spam t-shirt from ljcfyi.
In much more exciting news... I have (finally, I know) posted the pattern for the Boy Scarf. I'm very excited about it. Glance over it and see if there are any glaring errors. Like, you know, the cable pattern being all wonky, or my explanation of C6F being completely incomprehensible, etc. I would also love to know if anyone uses the pattern. If you use it, email me and I will link you or post a picture for you. ;)
Or should I say, pissed off knitter. This bear hat is not working. I think I'm going to pull my hair out as I rip this hat out... again. I'm definitely going to freak out in some way. On this lovely second attempt at panda hatting, I've realized that it wasn't the hat that has been too small, but the cast on edge. It is tight and unstretchy, where the rest of the hat is soft and floppy. I've decided to go down one needle size and try to cast on as loosely as I possibly can. What else could this be? Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I've made 8,000 hats, why is this one turning out so funked-i-fied?
I start school tomorrow, wish me luck!
Picture Day, It's Picture Day....
My computer is all wired up and I can now check my nipperknits email again and... I can post pictures again! Yeay! I have quite a few for you, so let's get to it.
Ickle Ronniekins turned out very well. The R looks pretty damn good for the amount of frustration it caused me. The sweater looks a little big, but it's like a boyfriend sweater so I don't mind. I've gotten quite a few compliments on it, from people who understood the reference and from those who didn't. Those who didn't get it were a little confused by my Harry Potter obsession, but who isn't really? Hell, I'm a little confused by it at times.
My Snake Scarf was a lot of fun to knit and I love wearing it. I get the weirdest looks from people. Why do you have a knitted snake hanging around your neck? Because it's damn cool, that's why. Thanks, Carolyn!
And do you remember me saying that I was working on Amy's panda bear hat? Well, here's what it looks like now. Doesn't look like a hat, does it? Yeah, me either. I'm using a different yarn than I did last time and the gauge didn't quite come out right. I got about 4 inches done on it and tried it on. Stupid thing fit me well, but Amy's noggin is much larger than mine and that just won't work. So, it's been ripped and is waiting for me to start over.
And in non-knitting news, my parents have a new dog. They had to put my old doggy to sleep just after I moved to NY. (She was very old and it was her time. Sad, but for the best.) But they now have a new puppy and I have joined the odd crew of knitters that have a Bichon Frise. Her name is April and she looks like a Muppet. She's cute, but annoying as shit. I guess I love her anyway, you can't help it when she turns on the cute.
I'm quite happy to be back home living with my parents. It's not so bad living at home when you can all respect each other. Hopefully I don't have to do it for very long, but it's good for now. ;) I miss NY, though. I'm pretty sure I won't be allowed to stay gone for long. I have too many people up there threatening to come kidnap me if they think I'm wasting time down here. School is finished April 30th, so I'll probably have to move again sometime in May.
