Knit-Out & Crochet

knit out

I'm headed to the Knit Out NYC tomorrow. It sounds like lots of fun. I'm almost glad no one will be selling anything, because I have no money. Who else is going? If you see me, say, "Hi!" I'm the one with the hot pink hair.

Nipper's Needle Nuisance

felted tweed

Well, I was hoping to show you something good for the opening of the Ron Weasley Along, but no, just the yarn I'm using. I've been swatching and it seems I'm coming out just right on gauge, with the same needle size and everything. That's really rare. But what sucks about that is that I have no size 5 needles. I have 4's, I have 6's, but no 5's. And, oddly enough, there's no place in Manhattan that sells Crystal Palace Bamboo Circulars. CP double points, yes. Clover Bamboo Circulars, yes. CP Circulars, no. So I'm waiting (patiently?) for Patternworks to send me my size 5's. Until then, you might get to see some more hat action.

But on a good note, I'm in love with the Felted Tweed. While swatching, it was so soft and buttery, I was amazed. I thought with a name like Felted Tweed it was going to be hard and scratchy, but not at all. We will have to see if this beats the Koigu for favorite fine gauge yarn. It just might.

Nipper Mitts

modeled mitts

Nipper Mitts are done! Actually, they've been done, but let me just tell you how hard it is to take a picture of both your hands while you're wearing mittens. I figured out how to use the timer function on my camera and spent some quality time making silly poses in front of it. Wearing mittens and pyjamas.

I put up the pattern here. I also put up a page on the side that leads to all my free patterns. There's only the Ron Weasley charts and the Nipper Mitts there now, but I'll put up more in time.

nipper cap

I'm making a Nipper Cap too. Look my hair matches my cap! I might put up the pattern for this as well, but I haven't decided yet. It's just your basic cap pattern, but maybe someone wants matching Nipper Mitts and Cap. Plus, it's always good to have free basic patterns avaliable. I know when I was a new knitter, I couldn't find any good free basic patterns. Admittedly, that was a few years ago and the internet is now a treasure trove of free patterns. So, we will see if I post patterns when I'm finished with the cap.

Am I That Obvious?

Am I that obvious? Or was my clue too good?

Pink                 10
Orange             3
Green               2
Lavender           2

I didn't think it would be quite so obvious a choice. Out of 17 entries, 59% of you chose pink. And you would be right!

pinky pink

Some people tried to win with insider information, but Martha Stewart has taught us you can get into a lot of trouble doing that. So they've been disqualified. They wouldn't want the prizes anyway, what with that whole not being knitters thing. My roommate also suggested you should have to guess magenta or fuschia in order to win, but as the color is called Atomic Pink, I thought that was unnecessarily specific. Especially as most of you chose pale, cotton candy pink and that's not quite right. Although there are pale, cotton candy bits in there.

Speaking of prizes, I should announce the winners... and the fabulous prizes they have won!

Missy was the first one to guess correctly. She's got me pretty well figured out. She gets some Brown Sheep Burly Spun in Lotus Pink:

Suzanne was the second to guess pink. She actually guessed fuschia (like a strawberry candy), so she got the roommate seal of approval. Her fabulous prize is 2 balls of Regia Sock Yarn in Hot Pink:

Thanks to everyone for playing. I think this should be a regular occurrence here at the Nipper Ranch. Look for another What The Hell Has Jenn Done To Her Hair This Time contest in a few months. Because God knows I can't stay one color for long.

Have you noticed my camera can't handle those pinks? And it's been getting a real workout with this entry. Maybe I need to branch out and knit with some colors other than pink, orange, and green. Maybe.

What Have You Done?!

It's time once again to play...

(drumroll, please)

What The Hell Has Jenn Done To Her Hair This Time?!

Now with prizes!

My hair has been red for many, many months and I'm tired of it. So, I've changed my color and you get to guess it.

For prizes!

black & white

Here's the picture of me at the park with my new hair. Tuesday I will show it in color and announce the winners of the contest. The first two people who guess my correct new hair color get fantastic prizes. A small clue for you: a guy on the train last night said that my hair was, "Delicious."

Isn't this better than the last time we played?

Because of the... prizes!

Email guesses here.
