I got my first present from my Secret Pal today. The Post Office has had it for almost a week and has been trying to deliver it whenever I'm not home. So, I went and picked it up before I had to go to work. Wow, what a haul! I got all kinds of cool stuff. The most fun are the Hindu god finger puppets. What's really funny is that I already had a set, but a friend stole my Shiva (you know who you are!) and I lost my Haruman. Perfect present, Secret Pal, now I have the full set again! I also got 3 types of incense, chopsticks, yummy-smelling Green Tea soap, a red candle, a very pretty card, and EnlightenMints (hehe.) And, of course, what you are all waiting for... The Yarn! Very cool red and black Bernat Boa. I don't know what I'm going to make with this, but it will look awesome whatever I do. Thanks, Secret Pal! (BTW, Secret Pal... No, I don't need an incense holder, but thanks for asking!)
The world must be telling me something, because I have already received another ball of Bernat Boa this week. I had lunch with Mindy (we've been planning this for weeks, but have just now gotten together.) She's planning on making an R2 sweater in grey. After seeing my pink sweater, she was a bit disappointed that she went with the more dull color. I had an extra ball from my sweater left (better safe than sorry, no?), so I offered it to her. When we finally got together this Thursday, she brought me some yarn for a mini trade. Black Bernat Boa and Fun Fur! To go with my horribly boring, all-black dress code. As she said, "If you have to wear all black, you might as well have some fun texture." Too right! Thanks, Mindy! I should make something with both colors of the Boa. Scarf? Bag? What? Any suggestions?
My Secret Pal received her first present this week, too. She was very excited. I didn't send much this first time, so I think the next present is going to be a bunch of little things. I had a great time opening my box of stuff, I hope she will too. ;)
Thanks to the successes of Brynne and Rae, I have begun anew on my Rainbow Pool. Doesn't Brynne's lace look great, not to mention the colors are gorgeous! And I'm drooling over Rae's red/orange colorway. Here is my
80-th newest attempt.
It just screams "Drunken Spider," but I'm beginning to come around to that look. I hope I can stick with it now. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but I really like the stripes. I love my colors; I just need to focus on them for awhile. ;)
I finished the pouch for my roommate's camera. Here it is all tied up. I used Sirdar Valentino, a fuzzy yarn I recommend for people who don't like the really long eyelash-y yarns. It has a very soft matte core and a shiny wrap-around that fluffs up at times. The soft, squish-y material, once knitted up, is great for hats and scarves or whatever.
I've also been working on my Nipper Cammie. That looks remarkably like the picture of the front of the sweater, doesn't it? I assure you that this is a new picture. ;) I have been alternating my dyelots, as Julia suggested. This is also a pain in the ass, but I think it will be for the best in the long run. We shall see. Hopefully, I can finish this soon. It's a fun knit, but I want to wear it! ;)
Check out Mindy's link to an article about a lady who knitted so fast her needle exploded! Crazy!
