Rainbow All Pooled Out

Rainbow All Pooled Out

Where is my scarf? I ripped it all out. I had a little over 4 inches when I finally got so frustrated with the drunken spider look of the lace that it just had to go. It looked like a beginner scarf, full of holes in weird places and far too open. I've never made a garter stitch lace project, but I think that's what really threw me off. Imagine: very open garter stitch lace with random-looking holes throughout. Weird. I'm going to try thinking of a different lace pattern. I might also just try doing it in plain garter stitch. Perhaps it will look better if it is more even. I'm not a big fan of garter stitch, but with this project it might look cool.

I spent the rest of the evening on a pouch for my roommate's camera. She's had it for less than a month and already it is more beat up than my year-old camera. The pouch is halfway done and I will post the pattern when I am finished. It's made from a fuzzy black yarn that I hope will protect the camera a bit better than just being thrown into her bag.

I received a card from my Secret Pal yesterday. She said something about a Superhero Supply Store opening in Brooklyn that will sell capes and stuff. That sounds like fun and I will have to check it out. She also asked the gifting/allergies questions and since I have no email for her, I will answer them here. Feel free to skip the rest of this paragraph if you have no interest in my likes or allergies. ;) Allergies: None really, but I try to stay away from fluffy wools like boucle. They make me sneeze and itch even if I'm not allergic to wool. I think you can figure out the colors I am drawn to just by looking at the projects I am doing of late (not to mention my blog colors.) You can either stick with the tried and true or break me out of my mold, the only colors to steer clear of are teal, purple, and most pastel colors (I'm a brights kind of girl.) I have to say that I am having a bit of a green fascination right now as well... in an avocado/olive/lime-y sort of way. As far as actual gift advice the only thing I'm going to say is that I prefer no fancy stitch markers. I lose stuff all the time and I can just see myself using them once and never seeing them again. Otherwise, it's all up to you. Have fun!

Ralph Fiennes has been cast as Lord Voldemort in Goblet of Fire. I think he's going to be a great He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

Hey, Lollipop!: Didn't really leave the house yesterday, so didn't get any new Hey, Lollipops. But I'm going to the library today, we'll see how many I get walking around midtown.

Rainbow Pool

Rainbow Pool.jpg

Here's what I've gotten done on the Rainbow Pool this morning. I've actually started and ripped about 4 times already, but I like the way it looks now. It's an interesting knit. There are some things I like about it, and also some things I don't. I love the color and the way they are striping up. I don't, however, know if I like the lace pattern or not. It's just really weird. Perhaps once I knit a bit more of it, the pattern will make more sense, but at the moment... Weird. All you other girls in the knit along, what do you think?

I think my new haircut is not as sexy/noticable to the men on the street. I haven't been receiving near as many comments as I had before. Of course now that I say that, I will probably get 8 or 9 comments today. I like my haircut, so poo on everyone else. :p

She's Alive!!!

Yes, folks, I have returned from the land of Working-Too-Damn-Much. I have been working, eating, and sleeping with no time for such things as knitting, blogging, or anything else. Therefore, I have a lot to catch up on in this entry, so it will be a long one.

pool_knitalong.gif First up, the Pooling Colors knit-along. Alison made us a great little button. And I bought my Anne on Friday. If I hadn't been quite so busy, I would have jumped into the Pool by now (stupid work). My colors are so much fun!

I went all over town looking for better colors at different stores, but found that this was the best colorway I could find. It was one of the first that I picked up at Downtown Yarns. I should have just trusted my instincts and went directly for the Rainbow, but I was curious as to what else was out there. But, I did see a lot of interesting yarn shops, met a lot of people, saw quite a bit of the city, and still got an amazing hank of yarn. What else can you ask for? I can't wait to get started! I'm not working tomorrow or Friday, so I hope I can at least figure out my end points and make a beginning of the Rainbow Pool.

nipperbutton.bmp Speaking of buttons, Laurie gifted me with a button! Thanks, lady! Feel free to steal it and stick it on your sites. ;)

Saturday night, I went to my friend's house to have her cut my hair. It is just too hot and muggy to have even a short bob. I have far too much hair for the summer. This is my new look. Didn't Monica do a great job?!?! She has never cut hair before and it looks like I went to the stylist to have it done. I'm very impressed. Normally, with a short haircut, I would want more length on the front and top, but I think it looks really good as it is. Whether it looks bad or not, it is still much cooler. I don't feel like I'm going to sweat to death anymore, and that is always a good thing.

One last thing and this huge entry will be done, and that thing is to introduce a new section of Nipperknits. It's called Hey, Lollipop! This new section will be daily (or as close as I can get to daily) and will tell just how many men on the street made a comment about my hair, because it happens at least once a day. Friday, when I was shopping, it just got out of control. Must have been more than 10 men over the course of the day said something. These Hey, Lollipop! incidents range from an old man (80-ish) leaning really close as I walk by and saying "Hey, Red," in a bedroom-y voice, to two high school students passing me by and yelling, "Hey, Red! I like your style!" "Me, too!" Random comments of "Nice hair," "Beautiful, beautiful," and "I love your hair" abound. Every day. The best yet is what the new section is named for. I was walking to the grocery store wearing a red shirt, white pants, and white sneakers. As I walk up the sidewalk this guy yells out, "Hey, Lollipop!" I had to immediately call my roommate and tell her about it. This was just about the coolest cat-call I have ever heard. I like that they are fixating on my hair rather than something else. At least with a comment about my hair, I can ignore the piggish meaning behind it and just say thank you. I have a harder time saying that to "Nice ass."
