Knitted-in Torture

Let me just say now before I get into talking about Rogue that I really, really hate provisional cast-ons. I love the effect that it gives and I love all that you can do with it. But I've only done provisional cast-ons for socks before. 30-40 stitches tops. Boy Rogue, however, was 196 stitches of pure, unadulterated torture. I should have taken a picture of the hem with the provisional yarn still on, but I was trying to get that done as quickly as I could. Yuck. Just thought I would share that before I go on.

I do however love the look of the knitted in hem. I did change the pattern a bit to be able to knit the hem in instead of sewing it like Jenna did. I knitted the 12 rows of hem in Stockinette stitch instead of twisted or ribbed. I think it gives a much more clean finish. Not to mention that it's a hell of a lot easier. ;) This is a shot of the back with the hem knitted in.

Since this is the Boy Rogue, I also changed the side shaping so there isn't any nipping in at the waist. The big knots are taken out and I'm just doing a simple cable down the sides keeping the 196 stitches up to the top. The cable looks pretty good plain. This way the body stays in the style of the rest of the Rogue without making the Boy look like a girl. ;)

Girly Rogue will have the big cable knots though. Plus, I'm thinking about taking a page from Claudia's book making the hem slightly smaller for Girly Rogue. Isn't that a gorgeous color that she is using for her Rogue? Too bad it has been discontinued. :( And wouldn't a zippered Rogue be the coolest? Girly Rogue may be changed up a bit as well. We'll see if I can get my hands on some of that Magpie Tweed, I may need a green Girly Rogue and a Red Zippered Girly Rogue.

Or maybe I'm getting a little out of control. Argh.

Rogue-ing, Rogue-ing, Rogue-ing

Here is my Rogue yarn. I'm going to try to swatch a little bit today. Hopefully I can get gauge with it. Although I don't have much time for knitting today as I have a test and a paper due tomorrow. But hopefully I can find (or make) some time for a little Rogue-ing. ;)

I thought it was a little brighter when I purchased it. It is a little darker than I expected, but still a beautiful color. I thought it was going to be the color of the Irish country side, now I see it is the color of the Irish country-side on a particularly dreary day. Still pretty, just a little darker.

What Color? What Color?

akaikami

What color did I decide on? Click the picture and find out. I am quite taken with it. Of course my hair stylist always does my hair much more fluffy then I like it to be, so I had to walk around school all day with hairdresser hair. I'll style it myself tomorrow, hopefully feel more like myself. I did get a lot of compliments on it, so maybe fluffy isn't so horrible though. My Japanese teacher said that I looked like this J-Pop artist Gackt. I think he's right, although it is a little weird to think I look like an androgynous Japanese guy.

Something else exciting. I received my Rogue yarn. It's kind of thin, I hope it knits to gauge. Other people said they got gauge with it, so hopefully I can as well. It's also a little darker than I wanted, but what else can you expect when buying yarn online? I didn't get home until after dark so I will take a picture of it tomorrow in the sunlight for you. Hopefully I can find some time to swatch. Wheeee! It's Rogue time, baby!

Cardi Raye's back and fronts are finished and I'm working on Sleeve #1. The big question is: Do I finish Cardi Raye first, or start on Rouge now? Helpful suggestions anyone? Remember, knitting time is a precious commodity at this point because of school.... That means one project at a time... Well, kind of. Do socks really count?

SuperMaggie!!!

grinning maggie

I just purchased a scarf and flower from SuperMaggie. I am so in love with them. I did purchase them late in the season, so I will only be able to wear the scarf a couple of times before it gets too hot. But believe me, I will be wearing it everyday until then. It is so soft and fluffy. The points stick up my nose, but one must suffer for the coolness factor, yes? I put the flower on my heavy wool coat and it will stay there in the winter, but I think for now it will go on my black turtleneck sweater or a lighter jacker. It will look nice and I can actually wear it for a few more months. I don't know about the wool flower in the middle of summer. Don't think it would work very well. Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure. SillyMaggie, ScaryMaggie, DistractedMaggie, and FlowerMaggie.

I'm getting my hair cut on Tuesday. I originally got this appointment to have my hair cut and colored in a normal way for the upcoming interview. It was going to kill me to have normal hair! My hair has ranged from thoroughly punk-y to psuedo-normal since I was 16 years old. After 10 years of changing my hair every 2 months, I was very upset at the thought of having to have broooooowwwwwwn (please note whiney tone) hair or something. Eew. But now that I'm not getting this interview, I can do whatever I want with my hair. (I'm looking on the bright side. I'm told it's good for you.) No job, no up-coming extremely conservative interview. Very exciting! Wheeeeeeeeeee!! I will have pictures for you Tuesday evening or Wednesday. yeay. Wouldn't my new scarf look really good with fire engine red hair? Or maybe a pretty sunset orange. Decisions, Decisions....
